Foni Kansala

Foni Kansala is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative divisions - the West African nation of Gambia. It is one of nine districts in the West Coast region.

According to a calculation by 2013 there live about 17 346 inhabitants, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 12,247.

The name is derived from Foni, a former small kingdom.

Population

According to a survey of 1993 ( former census ), the largest ethnic group of the Jola with a share of about seven -tenths, followed by the Mandinka and the Fula. The distribution in detail: 13.7% Mandinka, Fula 5.6%, 3% Wolof, Jola, 71.9 %, 2.5% Serahule, 0.9% Serer, Aku 0%, 0.7 % Manjago, 0, 3% Bambara and 1.4% other ethnicities.
