Fokino, Bryansk Oblast

Fokino (Russian Фокино ) is a town with 13,876 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the Bryansk Oblast in southwestern Russia. It lies on the River Bolwa, 16 km north of the regional center of Bryansk. Fokino forms since 2005 a city district, which is surrounded by the Rajon Dyatkovo.

History

The village was founded in 1899 as a settlement around the same time -scale cement factory. Originally, this settlement was accordingly named Zementny. In the 1920s, she was named in honor of a Fokino Bryansk revolutionary with the family name Fokin. The city has to get right in 1964 Fokino.

In the postwar years Fokino in many places built with two -to three- storey buildings, with a workforce of this often also German prisoners of war from World War II were used. Today however, most of these houses are dilapidated; for their rehabilitation or replacement by new buildings can apply any funds the city.

Economy

The most important operation in the city is the cement factory, founded in 1899, which is also mainly the population of the city and surrounding places like Beresino busy. With up to four million tonnes of annual production, the plant is considered the largest of its kind in Europe. However, the mass production of cement for environmental problems in Fokino ensures, as this large amounts of cement dust in the air can be expelled.

Other industries of the town includes a slate, a reinforced concrete and a ceramic tube factory.

Traffic

Fokino is located on the railway line Bryansk Wjasma and has on it a station. Important road links exist on Bryansk, where among other things the connection to highways M3 and M13 is. Within the city there is no public transport except intercity bus lines.
