Fraijanes

Fraijanes is a place in Guatemala and the administrative seat of the homonymous municipios in the department of Guatemala. The village is located approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Guatemala City to 1,585 meters above sea level on the National Road 2, the old trunk road to El Salvador. The new highway CA 1 ( Interamericana ) passes only a few kilometers to the west.

The 96 km ² large municipality extends in the southeastern highlands of the department of Guatemala. It has around 40,000 inhabitants, of which the majority live in rural settlements and villages, including Puerta del Señor, El Cerrito, Los Verdes, Rabanales, Lo de Dieguez, Don Justo, El Chocolate, Canchón, Pavón, San Andrés Buena Vista, El Retiro, Joya Verde, Las Crucitas, Montebello, Los Cipreces and Pueblo Viejo. In the field of Municipalities is a so-called high-security prison.

Adjacent Municipalities are San José Pinula in the Northeast, Santa Catarina Pinula in the north and Villa Canales in the West. In the south and east Fraijanes borders the department of Santa Rosa.

Fraijanes belonged until 1912 to the municipality of Petapa and then to 1924 to Villa Canales. On June 12, 1924 Fraijanes was elevated to municipality within the then departments Amatitlán, a year later it came to the department of Guatemala.
