San Pedro Ayampuc

San Pedro Ayampuc is a 30,000 inhabitants town in Guatemala and the administrative seat of the homonymous municipios in the department of Guatemala. The city is located about 25 kilometers north of Guatemala City.

The 113 km ² large municipality extends in the northern highlands of the department of Guatemala at altitudes 1100-1600 meters. It has around 50,000 inhabitants, which are the majority are Cakchiquel. A large proportion of people living in rural settlements and villages, including Hato, Pinalito, Lo de Reyes, San José Nacahuil, El Tizate, Lagunilla, laboratory Vieja, petaca, El Carrizal, San Antonio El Ángel, El Guapinol, Los altar ( Altarcitos ), Los Achiotes and Los Vados.

Adjacent Municipalities are Chuarrancho in the north, San José del Golfo in the east, in the southeast of Palencia, Guatemala City in the south and Chinautla in the West.

The territory of the Municipalities was originally Yampuc was controversial in pre-colonial times between Quiché and Cakchiquel. The latter allied himself during the conquest with Pedro de Alvarado and gained the upper hand briefly. The present city of San Pedro Ayampuc was founded in 1549, and 1837 administrative seat of the homonymous municipios.
