Francis Xavier Leray

Francis Xavier Leray ( born April 20, 1825 Château Giron, France, † September 23, 1887 ) was Archbishop of New Orleans.

Life

Francis Xavier Leray received on March 19, 1852 Sacrament of Holy Orders.

On December 19, 1876, he was named by Pope Pius IX. Bishop of Natchitoches. The Archbishop of Rennes, Geoffroy Saint -Marc Cardinal Brossais, donated to him on 22 April 1877, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Vincennes, Célestine René Laurent Guynemer de la Hailandière, and the bishop of Quimper, Charles- Marie Denis- Anselme de Nouvel La Flèche OSB.

On September 26, 1879 he was appointed by Pope Leo XIII. to Koadjutorerzbischof of New Orleans and appointed him Titular Archbishop of Ionopolis. The inauguration took place on 23 October of the same year. On December 27, 1883 Francis Xavier Leray in succession of the late Joseph Napoleon Perché Archbishop of New Orleans.
