Francisco Vallejo Pons

Francisco Vallejo Pons ( born August 21, 1982 in Es Castell Menorca ) is a Spanish chess player.

Francisco Vallejo learned the rules of chess as a five year old. Quickly, he was considered one of the most promising talents in Spain and participated in numerous international youth championships: He was second in the U10 World Youth Championship 1991 in Mamaia, second in the U10 European Championship in Warsaw in 1992, shared third parties ( with Etienne Bacrot ) in the U10 World Cup 1992 in Duisburg, second in the U12 World Cup in 1993 in Bratislava and shared third parties ( Ruslan Ponomariov with ) at the U12 World Cup in Szeged 1994.

In 1998 he won jointly with Miguel Illescas Cordoba, the Spanish Championship in Linares and was appointed in the same year by the FIDE to the International Master, 1999 at the age of 16 years and 9 months, the Grand Master. In 2000 he was second at the European Youth Championships U20 in Aviles and Youth World Champion U18 in Oropesa del Mar. This year he won the Mallorca Open and played for the first time in the Spanish national team at the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul. In 2001 he won the Capablanca Memorial in Havana and played in the same year in Mondariz against the Bosnian Ivan Sokolov a match 4:4 ( 1, -1, = 6).

In 2002, he played for the first time at the World Elite Tournament in Linares, which was won by Garry Kasparov. He also won this year in Dos Hermanas and was in the Spanish Championship, held in Ayamonte, second behind Spaniard Alexei Shirov the dial. In 2003, he won the Bundesliga team of the Lübeck chess club, the German team championship and with NAO Paris in Rethymno the European Cup for club teams. Currently, he plays in the Bundesliga for the OSG Baden -Baden. In 2004 he defeated Viktor Korchnoi in a match in Vera ( Spain) with 3,5:2,5 ( 2, -1, = 3). At the World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk 2005, he was twelfth. In 2006 he won Ruslan Ponomariov with a Young Masters tournament in Cuernavaca Mexico and the Spanish national championship in León. In 2009 he won in Cala Major again the Spanish championship.
