Frank Butler (writer)

Frank Butler ( born December 28, 1890 in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England; † June 10, 1967 in Oceanside, Long Iceland, New York ) was a British- American actor and screenwriter, who at the Oscar ceremony in 1945 with Frank Cavett Oscar for best adapted screenplay for the Way to happiness ( 1944) Leo McCarey for received.

Biography

Originally from England Frank Butler was initially a theater actor, before his debut as an actor in the silent film Behold My Wife of George Melford 1920 to 1927 participated in nearly fifty other silent films, partly under the stage name " FR Butler ".

After an interim written scenario ( Naughty Mary Brown, 1921), he started in the mid 1920s to work full-time as a screenwriter for the film industry in Hollywood, and was among other writers of the interim title in silent films. During his more than thirty years as a writer, he contributed to the creation of more than 60 films.

At the Academy Awards in 1943, he was equal to twice nominated for the Oscar in the category Best Original Screenplay and one hand with Don Hartman for The Road to Morocco (1942 ) of unrelated with him director David Butler and the other with WR Burnett Wake Iceland (1942 ) by John Farrow.

In 1945 he was awarded with Frank Cavett the Oscar for best adapted screenplay for the staged by Leo McCarey film The Road to Happiness (1944). In addition, he and Karl Kamb 1950 for the price of the Writers Guild of America (WGA Award ) for the Western bestgeschriebenen for the death despisers (1948 ) by Leslie Fenton.
