Frank Crean

Frank Crean ( born February 28, 1916 in Hamilton, Victoria, † 2 December 2008) was a senior Minister of the Australian Labor Party under the government of Gough Whitlam ( 1972-1975 ) and was in the last six months of the government 's Deputy Prime Minister.

Life

Frank Crean was born Francis Daniel Crean in Hamilton, Victoria. His father, who had an Irish Catholic descent, was bicycle manufacturer. However, Crean was a Presbyterian and therefore changed its name from Francis Daniel to the less Irish -sounding name Frank. He graduated from the University of Melbourne in the subjects of art and commerce and a diploma in public administration and became a chartered accountant and tax advisor. In 1946 he married Mary Findlay, with whom he had three sons. Simon Crean was the federal Labor leader in 2001 and 2003. 's Second son, Dr David Crean, a minister in the state Labor government in Tasmania was. Stephen Crean, the third son, was reported missing while skiing and died in a snowstorm near Charlotte Pass in August 1985. A wide search for him proved fruitless. His remains were found only after two years.
