Franz Novotny

Franz Novotny (* May 30, 1949 in Vienna) is an Austrian author, director and producer.

Life

He attended the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and became a camera assistant. In the 1970s, he turned mainly portraits of artists for the Austrian television. He became famous in 1977 by the television movie State Operetta. By following his first two feature films, he established himself as a director. He is one of the most important representatives of the Austrian avant-garde film of the 1960s and 1970s.

His preferred areas are movies, television series and commercials. In 1995 he founded together with Karin Novotny his own film company: Novotny & Novotny.
