Franz Pfnür

Franz Pfnür called "Bi Dui " ( born November 21, 1908 in Au / Berchtesgaden; † 21 September 1996) was a German alpine skier. At the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he became the first Olympic champion in alpine skiing.

Pfnür launched for the Ski Club Schellenberg. The World Ski Championships 1934 in St. Moritz, he won in the downhill and silver in the combination, respectively. In the slalom, he was able to prevail against those regarded as impregnable favorites David Zogg, and Pfnür became world champion. Less successful was his participation in the World Cup in 1935, where he was only fifth in the slalom.

The greatest success of his career, he managed at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, where alpine ski racing for the first time were on the program. In the two races for the Olympic combined score he had an exciting duel with Birger Ruud. In the descent to Pfnür had to give even beaten the Norwegians. In the slalom on the Gudiberg he succeeded then, make up the leeway, and he became Olympic champion. In the same year he became German champion in the combination.

He came to the nickname " Bi Dui " due to its questions in Bavarian dialect question (high German ): "Am I through " after he was not sure at a slalom if he had missed a gate.

After the Olympics Pfnür has been loaded by Adolf Hitler for coffee on his holiday home Obersalzberg and he joined the SS.
