Under Fred. Fred Olsen Express operates. Olsen S. A. its ferry services between the Canary Islands. Fred Olsen S. A. part controlled by the Norwegian Olsen Family Holdings Bonheur and Ganger Rolf ASA, which among other things also the shipping companies Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and First Olsen Tankers belong.

History

Fred. Olsen Express in 1974 as Ferry Gomera S. A. founded. The first ferry was Benchijigua baptized, after a small town in the south of the island of La Gomera. As with Olsen ships usual, the first letter is also a B.

The first opened on July 8, 1974 route between La Gomera and Tenerife was first traveled three times a day, the ferry ride lasted 80 minutes ( today around 35 minutes). Five years later, a larger and faster ferry was put into service, the Bonanza. Later SES Sant 'Agata followed (later Gomera Express) and Betancuria.

Currently (as of 2013) operates Fred. Olsen following six ferries:

  • Agaete (Gran Canaria ) - Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Ferries: Bencomo Express and Express Bentago
  • Los Cristianos ( Tenerife ) - San Sebastian de la Gomera; Ferry: Benchijigua Express
  • Los Cristianos ( Tenerife ) - Santa Cruz de la Palma ( via la Gomera ); Ferry: Benchijigua Express
  • Los Cristianos ( Tenerife ) - Valverde (over la Gomera); Ferry: Benchijigua Express
  • Playa Blanca ( Lanzarote) - Corralejo ( Fuerteventura); Ferry: Bocayna Express
  • Las Palmas de Gran Canaria - Morro Jable - Puerto del Rosario ( Fuerteventura); Ferry Bonanza Express

The recorded in March 2009, ferry service between Valle Gran Rey, Playa Santiago and San Sebastián de la Gomera on La Gomera with occasional connections to Los Cristianos ( Tenerife), was set at 1 February 2012. The company justified this step with the removal of subsidies by the island's government and lack of utilization. After placing these lines the Benchi Express ferry was returned to the Italian owner.

Fleet

The company owns five fast ferries ( max. travel speed in regular service: 38 kn ≈ 70 km / h ), including the currently world's second largest ship in trimaran design that was Benchijigua Express, which entered service in 2005. The Benchi Express is no longer in use since 1 February 2012.
