Frederick I, Landgrave of Hesse-Homburg

Frederick I of Hesse- Homburg ( born March 5, 1585 Castle Lichtenberg, † May 9, 1638 in Homburg ), was the first Landgrave of Hesse -Homburg and founder of the eponymous house.

Life

Frederick was the youngest son of the Landgrave George I of Hesse-Darmstadt (1547-1596) from his first marriage with Magdalena (1552-1587), daughter of Count Bernhard of Lippe VIII.

Frederick was, although in Hesse- Darmstadt, the Primogeniturordnung was introduced in 1622 apanagiert with city and department Homburg and a severance payment and annual Deputatgeldern and not ruled rich immediately under the sovereignty of Hesse- Darmstadt. In 1626 he led the country a birthright.

One of his sons was Frederick II of Hesse -Homburg - The Prince of Homburg.

Progeny

On August 10, 1622 married Frederick I in Butzbach Margarete Elisabeth ( 1604-1667 ), daughter of Count Christoph von Leiningen- Westerburg, with whom he had the following children:
