Freeez

Freeez was a British disco and funk group, which was founded in 1978 and 1983 had a worldwide hit with the title IOU.

History

John Rocca was first plate sellers in London and expelled mainly jazz and funk records from the United States. A regular customer let him sing in his band. In the next half year, there were joint performances with an afro hair salon.

In 1978, Rocca along with Peter Maas, Paul Morgan and Andy Stennett the formation Freeez. It was named after a radio - Instrumental by Rodney Franklin called The Groove. This song had sudden pauses in which everything freezes as if it were frozen. " Freeez " also means " Stop - stop! " and is called by American police officers when they stop suspicious persons.

1978 brought Freeez on their own label 'Pink Rhythm' their first single Keep in touch out, which was a hit in the UK charts ( number 49 ). In 1981, the group to the label ' Beggars Banquet ' and published the track Southern Freeze. The single reached the Top 10 in the UK ( 8th place). A few weeks later Flying High climbed to position 35 in the native charts.

At times, the band now had up to seven members, including Gordon Sullivan, George Whitmore and singer Alison Gordon. Through various disagreements Freeez shrank in 1983 to two persons, John Rocca and Peter Maas, together. In the same year, the U.S. house producer Arthur Baker wrote for the duo entitled IOU, which reached number 5 in the British charts Place 2, in the German Media Control Charts 8th place in Switzerland.

The follow-up single Pop Goes My Love placed in the fall of 1983 to position 26 in the UK and at position 52 in Germany. Love's Gonna Get You, the only reached number 80 in the UK charts in November 1983, was the last time being Freeez hit. A short time later parted musicians. Rocca and Stennet founded the unsuccessful project 'Pink Rhythm', while Maas, Morgan, Billy Crichton and Louis Smith led away without greater attention ' Freeez '. Only John Rocca has had some success as a soloist.

In early 1987, returned as IOU Remix in the UK charts back and reached # 23 A new version of Southern Freeez stood there mid-year at No. 63

I. O. U. has been covered several times. The 2002s version of the Phonkillaz from Cologne was used as the title music of the RTL show The 80s Show.
