Arthur Henry Baker ( born April 22, 1955 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States) is an American DJ, producer and remixer.

Biography

Arthur Baker began his musical career as a club DJ. In 1978 he started his own productions, for example, initially Happy Days with Northend. It was followed by the move to New York. There he worked for the Salsa label Salsoul Records. A project was Joe Bataans Rap -O -Clap -O. In the burgeoning hip-hop scene Baker contributed his remix technology and a special groove feeling. Even with sound experiments, such as with synthetic beats, he made a name for himself.

Because the time in New York was not very successful, Baker went back to Boston and produced there, some, not very successful singles, among them Glory 's Can You Guess What Groove This Is? . The change to the genre label Tommy Boy Records brought Arthur Baker in 1982 back to the Big Apple. There Shep Pettibone was his co- producer. The new partners produced for Africa Bambaataa, the breakthrough single Jazzy Sensation, a remake of Gwen McCrae 's Funky Sensation, and, inspired by Kraftwerk 's Trans-Europe Express, the legendary Afrika Bambaataa - Planet Rock Album.

After the founding of his own label Streetwise Records Baker oversaw, among other things the band New Edition Candy Girl on her first hit. He founded the studio project Rocker's Revenge, the celebrated successes in the U.S. dance charts. In 1983, Arthur Baker devoted himself to the mainstream pop and produced artists such as New Order, Naked Eyes, Diana Ross and Jeff Beck, but was also influential in the dance scene.

1989 came the collaboration with ABC, Jimmy Somerville and Al Green. From the album Merge emerged under the name " Arthur Baker & the Backbeat Disciples ". After the second album to Baker again concentrated on his work as a producer, but did not have as much impact as in previous years.

Arthur Baker was with Tina R. Baker, who was born as Tina Small, married. It is also known as Tina B, et al because they could be heard under this name on the soundtrack to Beat Street ( nothin ' ' Gonna Come Easy).
