Fuzhou (Jiangxi)

Fuzhou ( Chinese:抚州 市; Pinyin: Fǔzhōu Shì ) is a prefecture -level city in Jiangxi Province, People's Republic of China. The city is also known by its former name, Linchuan.

Fuzhou is located south of the provincial capital Nanchang. The area of ​​the city is 18 817 square kilometers and the population of 3.6 million ( 2000 census ). The population density is 190 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The former Linchuan is historically significant because it was the hometown of famous personalities. These mainly include

  • Wang Anshi, a reformist statesman of the Song Dynasty,
  • Zeng Gong, an influential scientist and historian of the Song Dynasty, and
  • Tang Xianzu, a famous playwright of the Ming Dynasty.

The most important industries in the region are food, textile and automotive industries.
