Jingdezhen

Jingdezhen (Chinese景德镇 市/景德镇 市, pinyin Jǐngdézhèn Shì ) is a prefecture-level city in China's Jiangxi Province, which is known as the porcelain capital (瓷 都you ci ) of China.

Jingdezhen was the name originally Changnanzhen (昌 南镇), but was renamed during the Song Dynasty after the government motto of the Jingde Emperor, the particularly promoted the production of porcelain at this location.

The place that had heard up to that point to the circle Fuliang 1927 got city rights and was directly subordinated to the provincial government. Just two years later, but was undone. In April 1949, Jingdezhen was raised for the second time in the rank of a ( district-free ) city. From June to September the same year the city was called just " Jingde ," since they had removed the third character ( zhen = greater community ) from the name. However, this proved to be impractical because had long since become a part of the name of the administrative term. 1953 Jingdezhen was eventually elevated to the rank of a prefecture-level city.

Jingdezhen has an area of ​​5263 km ² and approximately 1.53 million inhabitants ( end of 2004). Within the town kaolin, coal and manganese are produced.

Located in the urban area Hutian Kiln site (湖田 古瓷 窑址, Hutian gǔ cíyáo zhǐ ), the burgher houses in the Xiangji Alley (祥 集 弄 民宅, Xiángjílòng mínzhái ) and the site of Yuyaochang - kiln (御窑 厂 窑址, Yùyáochǎng Yao zhǐ ) are on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China.

Administrative Divisions

At county level, Jingdezhen is composed of two districts, one county and one independent city together. These are:

  • Municipality Zhushan (珠 山区), 31 km ², 270,000 inhabitants ( end of 2002), center, seat of the city government;
  • Municipality Changjiang (昌江 区), 392 km ², 150,000 inhabitants ( end of 2002);
  • Circle Fuliang (浮梁 县), 2867 km ², 280,000 inhabitants ( end of 2002), capital: greater community Fuliang (浮梁 镇);
  • Leping City (乐平 市), 1973 km ², 770,000 inhabitants ( end of 2002).
