Gabourey Sidibe
Gabourey " Gabby " Sidibe ( IPA: [ ˌ eɪ ɡæbʉr sɪdi ˌ beɪ ]; born May 6, 1983 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American actress. Notoriety she gained through her first film role in Lee Daniels ' movie Precious - Life is Precious (2009), for which she received an Academy Award nomination, among other things.
Biography
Gabourey Sidibe grew up as the daughter of R & B and gospel singer Alice Tan Ridley, a former special education teacher at the New York City's Harlem. Her father was a native of Senegal taxi driver. Sidibe's parents separated when she was young. She has a brother. From childhood, the girl was teased because of his excess weight and the Senegalese first name. At the age of eleven years, Sidibe began to pressure from family and friends on a diet, but which it does not by thought. It was only in junior high school, she began to accept its own account, which was accompanied by the shortening of her first name. The social drama is an adaptation of the novel Push the African-American writer Sapphire. It tells the story of a 16 -year-old obese girl from the Black Harlem, is raped by her own father and abused by her mother. To leave the misery behind her, she strives to overcome their illiteracy. Although Sidibe had no professional acting training, she was awarded the title role in Daniels ' film, which was co-produced by the talk show host Oprah Winfrey.
