Găești
Găeşti is a town in Dâmboviţa county in the Great Wallachia in Romania.
Location
Găeşti located in the Wallachian plain, a few kilometers north of the river Arges. The district capital Targoviste is located about 25 km north.
History
Găeşti was first documented in 1498. The Farming town developed since the beginning of the 19th century to a local market and trading center. Here, too, was an important coaching inn on the road between Bucharest and Caineni. Further expansion took place after the commissioning of the railway between Bucharest and Pitesti in 1875.
The main economic activities are trade, agriculture and metal processing.
Population
1777 lived on the territory of the present city in 284 houses 1,284 people. In 1992, 18 556 registered with the highest population. As of the 2002 census lived in Găeşti 15,585 people, including 15,366 Romanians, 194 Roma and 16 Hungary.
Traffic
Găeşti lies on the railway line from Bucharest to Pitesti. Exist in both cities several times a day direct. Ten kilometers south of the city runs the A1 motorway that leads currently from Bucharest to Pitesti. The city is (NATIONAL drum ) DN 7 crossed by the National Road; affected by the DN 61 and DN 72. Regular bus services among others according to Targoviste.
