Gällivare Municipality

Gällivare [ jɛlivɑ ː rə ] is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the northern Swedish province of Norrbotten County and the historic province of Lapland, about 100 km north of the Arctic Circle.

The main town of the municipality is Gällivare. The community is about as big as the state of Thuringia. The municipality consists of the villages ( tätorter ): Gällivare, Hakkas, Koskullskulle, Malmberget, Nilivaara, Tjautjas and Ullatti. A significant småort is Nattavaara.

Economy

Within the area there are numerous tourist destinations, including Dundret, Kaitum, Nikkaluokta Ritsem and Stora Sjöfallet. The Inland Railway attracts many visitors. Passing through the municipality, the iron ore railway.

The most important employer in addition to tourism, the mines in Koskullskulle ( iron ore ) and at Sakajärvi (gold and copper).
