Gannat

Gannat is a commune with 5806 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the arrondissement of Vichy ( Allier, Auvergne ) and capital of the canton of the same name.

Geography

The town lies on the River Gannat Andelot in the landscape Limagne Bourbonnais, about 20 kilometers west of Vichy. In the south and west borders the municipality of Gannat to the Puy-de -Dôme.

History

In Gannat currently excavations are underway that demonstrate the pros and prehistoric occupation of the site. In Roman times Gannat became a traffic junction between Vichy, Clermont -Ferrand and Chantelle.
