Garrelt Duin

Garrelt Duin [ ɡaʁəlt dy ː n] ( born April 2, 1968 in Leer ) is a German politician. He was from 2005 to 2010 state chairman of the SPD in Lower Saxony. Since June 21, 2012, he is Minister of Economy, Energy, Industry, Trade and Crafts of North Rhine- Westphalia.

Life and career

After graduation in 1987 at the Johannes Althusius - Gymnasium in Emden Duin began studying law and Protestant theology in Bielefeld and Göttingen, which he finished in 1995 with the first in 1998 with the second legal state examination. In 1998 he was admitted to the bar. Garrelt Duin is married and has a son.

Party

Garrelt Duin occurred during his school days in the SPD. From 1993 he served on the board of the SPD district Weser- Ems and was from 2002 to the spring of 2010, its chairman. The SPD Federal Executive belongs Duin since 2001. From November 2005 to May 2010 Duin was chairman of the SPD National Association of Lower Saxony.

When the SPD executive committee voted in February 2008 on the opening to the left, came from Duin the only dissenting vote. Member of Parliament

From 1996 to 2006 Duin was a member of the Council of the municipality of Hinte. In October 2000, Duin moved according to the European Parliament for the deceased members Günter Lüttge. In the European elections in 2004 he was again elected to the European Parliament. However, he laid down the mandate in 2005, after he was elected to the Bundestag in 2005. From 2005 to 2012 Garrelt Duin was as directly elected representative of the constituency Aurich - Emden Member of the German Bundestag. In the 2005 federal election he reached there 58.3% of the primary vote, in the general election in 2009 44.4%. This Duin scored the best first vote of the Lower Saxon SPD. In the 17th electoral term, that is, from 2009, he was economic policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group and one of three speakers of conservative Seeheim Circle.

On June 21, 2012 Duin resigned his seat in parliament to become prime minister of North Rhine- Westphalia. His mandate took over the Nachrückerin Gabriele Groneberg.

Public offices

Garrelt Duin was appointed on 21 June 2012 by Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft, the Minister of Economy, Energy, Industry, Trade and Crafts of North Rhine -Westphalia (Cabinet force II).

Positions

In July 2012, the State of North Rhine -Westphalia and Duin called as the new Minister of Economics, a nationwide compensation for the cost of the energy transition. Shortly before the state of Bavaria filed a lawsuit against the state fiscal equalization announced (total in 2011: 7.3 billion euros ).
