Nils Schmid

Nils Schmid ( born July 11, 1973 in Trier) is a politician of the SPD. Since 2009 he has been state chairman of the SPD in Baden- Württemberg.

For the state election on 27 March 2011, he ran as SPD's top candidate in the constituency Reutlingen. In the cabinet Kretschmann he is since May 12, 2011 Minister of State for Finance and Economic Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann.

Education and work

After graduation in 1993 at the Eduard- Spranger -Gymnasium in Filderstadt and his community service in a nursing home Schmid holds a degree in Law at the Eberhard -Karls- University Tübingen, which he finished with the first legal state exam in 1999. The subsequent clerkship, during which he was temporarily working for the power company energy services, he finished 2001 with the second legal state examination. Since then, he is admitted to the bar. In 2006 he completed his PhD at the Department of Ferdinand Kirchhof.

Party race

Since 1991, Nils Schmid is a member of the SPD. He first became involved with the Young Socialists and was from 1993 to 1997 Young Socialists county chairman in Esslingen. In addition, he was from 1996 to 1998 deputy chairman of the Young Socialists in Baden- Württemberg. 1993 to 2011 he was a member of the SPD District Executive Esslingen and 1999 to 2010 he was chairman of the SPD Nürtingen local association.

After the former state chairman of the SPD Baden- Württemberg, Ute Vogt, who resigned from her post as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group, Nils Schmid was defeated on 10 January 2008 with 18 to 20 votes narrowly in a vote by their successor in that office against Claus Schmiedel. In 2009, he was beside Claus Schmiedel and Hilde Mattheis one of three candidates for the succession of Ute Vogt as chairman of the SPD state association. To this end, a survey of members in the Baden-Württemberg SPD took place on 21 November 2009. With a turnout of 47.35 % he received in the second count, taking account of the second votes 56% against 37 % for Hilde Mattheis. The first votes 46.2% of votes were cast for him, 29.1% to Hilde Mattheis and 22.8% to Claus Schmiedel. Then Nils Schmid was elected at the state party of the SPD in Karlsruhe on 27 November 2009 with 265 of 299 votes of the delegates ( 88.63 %) to the state chairman. On October 16, 2010 Nils Schmid was elected at the state party of the SPD in Ulm with over 92 % of the vote to tip the SPD's candidate for the parliamentary election in 2011 and thus to the challenger to Prime Minister Stefan undersecretary.

In 2003 he was a founding member of the Board of Werner -Weinmann Foundation, which primarily supports facilities for the elderly as well as children and youth services in the area Nürtingen and Filderstadt. Family and Private

Schmid's ethnic Turkish Tulay wife brought a son into the marriage, the couple also has a daughter. Schmid is a protestant and lives in Reutlingen. His mother is a professor at the University of Education Ludwigsburg.
