Gary David Goldberg

Gary David Goldberg ( born June 25, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York, † June 23, 2013 in Montecito, California ) was an American film producer, screenwriter and film director.

Life

Goldberg grew up in a small apartment in New York and was raised primarily by his grandmother. In 1962, he enrolled at Brandeis University, and completed his studies in 1975 at the San Diego State University.

In order to finance the studies, he worked as a waiter in a restaurant in Greenwich Village, where in 1969 he and his future wife, the social scientist Diane Meehan met. They married at the beginning of the 1970s and had two daughters. Shana Goldberg - Meehan was like her father scriptwriter and wrote, among other things, for the sitcoms Friends and Joey Goldberg - Meehan's husband, so Gary David Goldberg's son, is the TV producer Scott Silveri. Cailin Goldberg, Goldberg's second daughter, was a freelance writer and now works as a staff member at the Huffington Post.

Gary D. Goldberg began his work in Hollywood mid-1970s, when he began writing screenplays for television series, including Lou Grant and M * A * S * H. For Lou Grant, he produced 1978-1979 12 episodes.

Goldberg's breakthrough came in 1982 when he called the sitcom Family Ties in life, and for which he won the then-unknown actor Michael J. Fox as the main character. The series, which was produced until 1989 in seven seasons, was honored with a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for numerous Emmys. Goldberg even received two Emmys.

In 1989, Goldberg first time directing a feature film, he also produced and wrote the screenplay. Dad should get a 1990 Oscar nomination.

After Goldberg in 1996 with the sitcom Champs had booked a failure - the series was canceled after only 12 episodes - he designed the television series Spin City for which he could engage Michael J. Fox again. The series was filmed until 2002.

Goldberg's last project was the comedy film Love Dogs ... man with heart in which he again directed 2005.

After a lengthy cancer Goldberg died 68 years old in June 2013 at his home in Montecito, California.
