Gayndah

Gayndah is a small town of about 1,700 inhabitants on the Burnett River in the Australian state of Queensland. It is located 328 km north-west of Brisbane and 163 kilometers south-west of Bundaberg on the Burnett Highway. The city is the seat of the administrative area ( LGA) North Burnett region.

History

The area around Gayndah was first explored in 1843 by the Europeans. The first settlers settled here in 1848 down, a year later, the city was founded and the first post office opened in 1850. From the beginning, agriculture and animal husbandry were the predominant industries in the area. Today Gayndah is the center of citrus production in Queensland. Therefore, every two years the Gayndah Orange Festival.

The city's name derives from a concept of Aboriginal, either by Gu - in -dah (or Gi -un -dah ) for thunder, or of Ngainta for a position with scrub.
