Gazélec Ajaccio

The Gazelec Football Club Ajaccio ( or shortly Gazelec or GFCA ) is a French football club based in Ajaccio, the capital of the French department of Corse- du- Sud on the island of Corsica.

It was founded in 1910 as Jeunesse Sportive Ajaccian. After several mergers he called himself after 1933 FC Ajaccio, 1960 Gazelec Football Club d' Ajaccio and from 1996 Gazelec Football Club Olympique Ajaccio, before he assumed its present name in 2012. The term " Gazelec " comes from the French large, formerly state-owned power company Electricite de France - Gaz de France (EDF - GDF ), which supports the club for half a century. The club colors are red and blue; league team plays at the Stade Ange Casanova (until 1994: Stade Mezzavia ), which has a capacity of 6,000 seats.

Club president is François Tagliaglioli; the first team is coached by Thierry Laurey since February 2013. (As of June 2013)

League membership

Professional status had never possessed before 2012 Gazelec; although requested, he was the club denied in the past by the Football Association because of the principle of " One City, One Senior Club" represents, to prevent a similar number of clubs have to file for bankruptcy as in the 1980s and 1990s - and in Ajaccio are already there the ACA. Accordingly GFCA also played never top notch (Division 1 since 2002 in Ligue 1 renamed). For the 2011/12 season he has ascended to the third-rate nation; this season he succeeded - after victories against, among others first division club FC Toulouse and Montpellier HSC - even the foray into Cup semi-finals as well as the rise in the Ligue 2, for which he will also get a professional license has been granted for the first time. In the 2012/2013 season GFCA rose as Table from the National ( D3).
