Geersdijk

The village is part of the island community Geersdijk Noord- Beveland, in the province of Zeeland in the Oosterschelde. The village is the road between Kortgene and Wissenkerke and is with about 300 inhabitants, the smallest village in North Bevelands.

History

The place name Geersdijk is a combination of the names of persons Geerlof and dike. The original Geersdijk was an independent parish in the 13th century. The village did not survive the various floods and has been in 1668 at another location, according to the rectangular scheme of Colijnsplaar constructed. This new Geersdijk received in 1808 a harbor which served to ship agricultural products. In the first half of the last century there was also a berth ferry boat to South Beveland. The small port still exists and is used for water sports.

Geersdijk will face the rest of nature lovers estimated, for example, on the mini camping in and around the village. In addition, opportunities exist for water sports.
