Kortgene

Kortgene ( Zeeland: Kortjeen ) is a town with a historic town and former municipality on rights Noord- Beveland in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Its population is 1847 (as of 1 January 2008).

History

Kortgene was mentioned as a parish in the year 1247 and 1413 provided by the Jonkheer Philips van Borssele with city rights. In the following years went on a violent fire the whole town in flames, including the new church was being built.

On November 5, 1530 throughout North Beveland was flooded during the Saint -Felix- storm surge, which in 1532 again repeated. Here, almost all the buildings were swept away, only the spiers of Kortgene and Wissenkerke remained.

With the renewed reclamation of Noord- Beveland was started in 1598. 1684 also the area in Kortgene was polders again. The old church tower had apparently survived 150 years in the water and could be put to use again. It was attached to the old church tower is still a new nave.

After the reconstruction Kortgene again received city rights as the only place on North Beveland. The city Kortgene but had no seat in the Zeeland Provincial Assemblies Assembly ( " Staten van Zeeland " ), therefore Kortgene can also be described as titular.

Around 1930 began discussions on a municipal reorganization. In 1941 Colijnsplaar, Kats and the city Kortgene Kortgene to the municipality were merged in 1995 in turn merged into the newly formed congregation at that time Noord -Beveland.

Building

In the church tower of the bell Nicolaaskerk "Suzanne", which had been stolen by the Dutch navy on the French island of Ile de Noirmoutier in 1674 depends. This was stolen again during World War II by German occupation staff, but after the liberation of the German occupation came the bell, the only one of noord - beveländischen bells back.

In 1873 a flour mill was built, " De Korenbloem " ( German: " Cornflower " ), which was restored in 2010 /2011.

During the year, see Kortgene various events, most of them in the summer: Ring horse riding, wakeboarding, fun fair, etc.. Furthermore Kortgene has a port, the "Delta Marina" means. It is seen from the Zandkreekschleuse from the first port on North Beveland on the lake of Veerse sea. There is also the camping " De Paardekreek ".
