Gennes (Doubs)

Gennes is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Gennes is at 405 m, about 7 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the western Jura, on the so-called first plateau on the northern edge of the basin of the Saone, at the foot of the Jura - edge chain ( Cote ).

The area of ​​7.18 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The southern part of the area is occupied by the wide first Jura plateau, which is on average 400 m. It forms a wide basin with no surface drainage, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. In the area of the plateau is mostly Gennes consisted of arable and meadow land to the east of the municipality floor extends into the forest Bois de lazy. History

Remains of prehistoric caves in Gennes point to a very early settlement of the municipality. In the Middle Ages Naisey belonged to the rule Montfaucon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 591 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Gennes is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs.
