Sancey-le-Grand

Sancey -le- Grand is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Sancey -le- Grand is located at 510 m, about 29 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). Former street village extends in the Jura, on the southern edge of the basin of Sancey ( Vallon de Sancey ) between the heights of Lomont the north and the plateau in the south.

The area of ​​23:55 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern part of the area occupied by the basin of Sancey, which has a length of approximately 5 km and a width of 4 km and an average is at 480 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. Drained the area by the Ruisseau de Voitre, the seeps in the west of the basin karstic underground. The boundaries of the basin in the north of the height of Orve ( to 640 m ) to the west from Mont de Vey.

To the south runs a 100 to 150 m high road range whose upper edge is crowned at different locations of a Kalkfelsband, to the next higher Jura plateau above ( average 650 m). This step in the terrain is dissected by several valleys in a series of projections, including those of the Bois des Rachênes and the Bois de l' Ouche ( on the eastern border ). In the extreme south of the municipality area extends into the Talfurche Combe Georgeot and on the slopes of Peu de Laviron and Forêt de Millery. With 800 meters, the highest elevation of Sancey -le- Grand is reached at the northern slope of the Peu de Laviron.

To Sancey -le- Grand, besides the actual place includes various hamlets and numerous individual farms, including:

  • Voitre (480 m ) in the middle of the basin of Sancey
  • Sancey- l'Église (southern part, 500 m) in the basin of the Sancey northwest foot of the Bois de l' Ouche
  • Teigne (650 m) on the plateau of the Bois des Rachênes
  • Juvillers ( 690 m) on a plateau at the northern foot of the Peu de Laviron

Neighboring communities of Sancey -le- Grand are Chazot, Orve and Sancey -le-Long in the north, Surmont in the east, the south and Laviron Landresse, Ouvans, Vellevans and Randevillers in the West.

History

Already in 1120, the church of Saint -Martin de Tour was first mentioned in Sancey- le -Grand. In the Middle Ages Sancey -le- Grand belonged to the rule Passavant, which came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

Its present form was the Church of Sancey -le- Grand in the new construction in the 15th and 16th centuries, which was restored several times and changed in the following centuries. The choir is Gothic styles. For the rich interior include the pulpit and wood carvings from the 18th century. In the village is the chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Another chapel stands in the hamlet Voitre. In the old town several farmhouses in the traditional Franche-Comté style have been preserved, many dating back to the 16th century. From the former seat of power today bear witness to just a few ruins.

Population

With 930 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Sancey -le- Grand is one of the smaller communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1896 889 people were still counted ), a significant population growth was recorded mainly during the 1970s. Since the early 1990s, however, the population has declined slightly again.

Economy and infrastructure

Sancey -le- Grand is now taking its true function as a small center for the surrounding area. It is the location of numerous companies of small and medium enterprises, mainly in the fields of plastics, electronics, precision engineering, construction and woodworking. In addition, there are many shops of retail and a supermarket. Thanks to the great community area to agriculture ( farming, fruit growing, dairy farming and livestock ) and forestry still play a certain role.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares at the junction of the department of roads that lead from Besançon Maîche respectively of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs by Pierre Fontaine- les- Varans. Another road connection with Surmont. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of around 18 km.
