Orve

Orve is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Orve is located on 465 m, 4 km north- west of Sancey -le- Grand and about 27 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in a broad trough south of the Lomont.

The area of ​​5:51 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Chazot, which is on average 460 m and a width of one kilometer and a length of about 2 km. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. The valley is part of a Trockentals, the topographical part of the catchment area of ​​the Cusancin. However, there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. The eastern boundary is marked by a ridge which separates the basin of Orve Sancey. With 671 m is achieved here in the Bois de Fayts the highest elevation of Orve. To the north, the municipality's area extends to the foot of the Lomont in the area of the pass traversal Col de Ferrière.

To Orve the hamlet of La Vie -Paule part ( 461 m) at the crossing on the western outskirts. Neighboring communities of Orve are Anteuil in the north, Vellerot -lès- Belvoir and Rahon in the east, Sancey -le-Long and Sancey -le- Grand in the south and in the west Chazot.

History

In the Middle Ages Orve belonged to the rule Belvoir. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 68 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Orve is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 193 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Orve was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs after Vellevans.
