Crosey-le-Grand

Crosey -le- Grand is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Crosey -le- Grand is located at 555 m, 8 km northwest of Sancey -le- Grand and about 28 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, a scenic location on a high plateau at the southern foot of the Lomont south of Doubstals.

The area of ​​10:28 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Crosey, the average is 540 m and is inclined slightly to the south. This area is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas. The high plateau of operation is broken by several dry valleys. They extend southward and empty into a Talfurche which topographically part of the catchment area of ​​the Cusancin.

To the north, the municipality's area extends over a steep slope up to the ridge of Lomont. This ridge forms in geological- tectonic ways a anticline of the Jura Mountains and is oriented according to the strike of the mountains in this region in west-east direction. History

In the Middle Ages Crosey -le- Grand was the center of a small rule. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Étienne has components from different eras. The chancel dates from the 16th century, while the ship was rebuilt in the 18th century. The church has a rich interior, mostly from the Baroque period, including the main altar and the tabernacle of the 18th century. In the village are farmhouses in the traditional style of the Franche -Comté are from the 17th to 19th centuries. At the height of Lomont is the chapel of Sainte -Anne.

Population

With 177 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Crosey -le- Grand is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 324 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.
