Branne (Doubs)

Branne is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Branne is located at 280 m, 9 km east-northeast of Baume- les -Dames and about 27 km west-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in a wide valley widening of the Doubs on the right the north side of the river, between the rift valleys of Clerval and Hyèvre, at the southern foot of Mont Fort.

The area of ​​6.45 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The Doubs flows here with several turns by up to 2 km wide, flat alluvial plain to the west and is accompanied by the waterways of the Rhine- Rhone Canal. The river always forms the southern boundary. From here, the municipality's area extends northward over the Talniederung and up a steep slope down to the wooded heights of the Bois de Branne ( 525 m) and Mont Fort, on the 556 meters, the highest elevation is achieved by Branne. History

In the Middle Ages Branne belonged to the rule Clerval, which came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The church Saint -Martin was built in the 18th century in classical style with the inclusion of the bell tower of an earlier building dating from the 15th or 16th century. In the village is a Lavoir ( laundry and livestock watering ), which dates from 1829.

Population

With 177 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Branne is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881, 317 subjects were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure
