Chazot

Chazot is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chazot is at 460 m, 5 km north- west of Sancey -le- Grand and about 28 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in a broad trough south of the Lomont.

The area of ​​5.35 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Chazot, which is on average 450 m and a width of one kilometer and a length of about 2 km. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. Topographical Chazot belongs to the catchment area of the Cusancin. To the southwest of the community ground enough in a dry valley, which establishes the connection between the basin of Sancey and the Cusancin as close Talfurche. It is on the north side of the Montmiale height (530 m ), accompanied on the south side of the plateau of Randevillers. With 641 m is reached on a ridge southeast of the village is the highest elevation of Chazot. With a narrow tip, the municipality's area extends north across the gradually rising plateau of Crosey (540 m) to the foot of the Lomont.

History

In the Middle Ages Chazot belonged to the rule Belvoir. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The church of Notre -Dame de la Nativity was built from 1703 to 1716. It has a remarkable interior, including a richly carved pulpit and an altar in the Baroque period ( 18th century). Dating back to the 16th century Chapelle des Etaings was restored in 1958.

Population

With 126 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Chazot is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 289 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Chazot was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs after Vellevans. Further road links exist with Sancey -le- Grand and Crosey -le -Grand.
