Pompierre-sur-Doubs

Pompierre -sur -Doubs is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Pompierre -sur -Doubs is 283 m, some 22 km west-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located at the entrance of the Ruisseau de Soye in the lowlands of Doubstals, on the northern edge of the outermost ridges of the Jura.

The area of ​​8:16 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The southern boundary runs along the Doubs, the multiple turn it flows through about one kilometer wide, flat Talniederung and from the waterway of the Rhine-Rhone canal ( two locks in the area of the village) is accompanied. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward over the flood plain on the adjacent plateaus with forested areas Bois du Frênoi, Bois de Theurey and Bois le Chanois. In between is the valley of Ruisseau de Soye. History

During Roman times, the traffic route of Vesontio (Besançon) led to the Upper Rhine through the territory of Pompierre. In the Middle Ages Pompierre belonged to the rule Clerval, which came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Pompierre was officially renamed in 1923 in Pompierre -sur- Doubs.

Population

With 307 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Pompierre -sur -Doubs is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 449 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded particularly in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

Pompierre -sur -Doubs was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are now several companies of local small enterprises, mainly in the fields of precision engineering and toolmaking.
