Soye

Soye is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Soye is located at 310 m, 7 km west of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs, and 24 km west-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in a small valley of the Ruisseau de Soye north of Doubstals, in the rolling countryside on the southern edge of the Kalkhochfläche between the valleys of Doubs and Ognon.

The area of ​​13.89 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the north Doubstals. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Soye, which is approximately 500 m wide. It is drained to the Doubs by the Ruisseau de Soye south. To the west of the municipality floor extends to the heights of the Grand Bois ( to 405 m). North of the valley of Soye a predominantly arable and meadow land passing the slope rises gently to the adjacent Kalkhochfläche, on the 507 m with the highest elevation reached by Soye. There are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. Near the northwestern border community is the Chasm of Pourpevelle, a cave with an underground watercourse. The eastern municipal boundary runs in a dry valley.

Neighboring communities of Soye are Bournois and Accolans in the north, Mancenans in the east, Pompierre -sur -Doubs in the south and Fontaine- lès- Clerval and Gondenans - Montby in the West.

History

The origins of Soye go back to the construction of a castle in the 12th century. Since that time Soye made ​​a rule, which was closely connected with the monastery Lieu- croissant in neighboring Mancenans. In 1354 the government passed into the possession of the family of Neuchâtel. The original castle was demolished in 1668 to the French King Louis XIV command. Together with the Franche -Comté Soye came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today is Soye part of the community association Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Désiré -et- Rainfroid was rebuilt in 1836. A Country Chapel is located in an open field northeast of the village. From the medieval castle only a few remains are visible. Today's Château situated in a park built at the beginning of the 18th century and has two squat towers.

Population

With 370 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Soye is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 508 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Soye was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs to Rougemont. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 14 km. Further road links exist with Bournois, Pompierre -sur -Doubs and Clerval.
