Gondenans - Montby is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Gondenans - Montby is located on 395 m, 12 km north-northeast of Baume- les -Dames and about 27 km west-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located on the gently undulating Kalkhochfläche between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the north, on the western edge of the Grand Bois.

The area of ​​11.78 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside between Doubs and Ognon. The main part of the area is occupied by the water-poor plateau, which is on average 400 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also shows some larger forest areas. To the west of the municipality floor extends to the wooded heights of the Chamois, on the 494 meters, the highest elevation of Gondenans - Montby is achieved, and the Bois du Chardenoi. The eastern boundary runs along a ridge of the Grand Bois ( to 425 m). North of the village begins a trough, which opens to the valley of Uzelle. In this valley, the topographical part of the catchment area of ​​the Soye, is one of the few above-ground rivers of the limestone plateau, but the seeps in the karstic underground after a short distance back. The trough of Les Echarquenans beyond this Taleinschnittes belongs to Gondenans - Montby.

History

The territory of Gondenans - Montby was settled very early. Traces of human presence were discovered from the Neolithic period and the Bronze Age. The Montby castle was founded in the 12th century, which was the focus of a rule in the ensuing period. It was burnt down in 1344, rebuilt after being sacked in the 16th century and again inserted during the Thirty Years War in 1637 on fire. Together with the Franche -Comté came Gondenans and Montby with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. During the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 parts of the castle were destroyed by Prussian artillery, as had entrenched French troops here. Since the time of the French Revolution Gondenans, Montby and Les Echarquenans form the municipality Gondenans - Montby. Today Gondenans - Montby is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Rougemont.

Attractions

The Chapel of Gondenans was built in the 19th century. From the medieval castle Montby only a few ruins from the 16th century are visible. Today the castle site is a farm.

Population

With 171 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Gondenans - Montby one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1906 346 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Gondenans - Montby was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. At the Moulin Brulé fish farm is operated.
