Rillans

Rillans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Rillans is located at 400 m, 7 km north of Baume- les -Dames and about 32 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on a high plateau between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the north, the creek Viotte at the southern foot of the Mont du Ciel.

The area of ​​3.42 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside north of the Doubs. The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 400 m. It consisted mainly of arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas. The only above-ground river is the river Viotte, which rises at Rillans and seeps in the area of Verne again before he again emerges as karst spring in Fourbanne in the Doubs Valley. The plateau is karstified and has several caves and shafts on. To the north the land rises slightly at the top of the Mont du Ciel, on the 473 m the highest elevation of Rillans is achieved. This hill separates the plateau from the north adjacent, much deeper headwaters of Crenu.

Neighboring communities of Rillans are Mésandans in the north, Vergranne in the east, the south and Verne Trouvans in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Rillans belonged to the dominion of Clerval, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Rillans is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Rougemont.

Attractions

The Chapel of Rillans was built in 1879. From the 18th century comes a seat of power.

Population

With 85 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Rillans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 112 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Rillans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road D50, which runs from Baume- les -Dames to Villers Exel. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 6 km. Another road connection with Verne.
