Gondenans-les-Moulins

Gondenans -les -Moulins is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Gondenans -les -Moulins is located at 285 m, 13 km north of Baume- les -Dames and about 37 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on the southern edge of the Ognontals, at the northern foot of the plateau that stretches between the valleys of Doubs and Ognon.

The area of ​​3.93 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside between Doubs and Ognon. The northern part of the area is relatively weak in relief. It is drained by the village stream, which rises at the foot of a steep Talabschlusses, north to Drigeon. From the valley of Gondenans, the municipality's area extends southward over an approximately 120 meter high site level up to the arid, karst plateau of Plain Bois, which is densely forested. The slope is crowned at different locations in a rock band, which also has several caves. On the plateau of the Plain Bois the highest elevation of Gondenans -les -Moulins is achieved with 438 m.

Neighboring communities of Gondenans -les -Moulins are Cuse -et- Adrisans in the north, Fontenelle - Montby in the east, and Romain Gouhelans in the south and Rougemont in the West.

History

The caves above Gondenans -les -Moulins were already inhabited in prehistoric times. In the Grotte de l'Ours and the Grotte du Fer à Cheval remains were found, indicating the presence of the Neanderthal and cave bear.

In the 12th century a castle was built, which was the center of a reign. It was destroyed in 1475, then rebuilt in the style of the Italian Renaissance and devastated again during the Thirty Years' War in 1636. Together with the Franche -Comté Gondenans came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Gondenans -les -Moulins is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Rougemont.

Attractions

The village church, which dates back to a medieval chapel dating from the 13th century, was rebuilt in the 17th century in classical style. The castle dates from the 18th century. Of the once four mills along the Drigeon the Moulin de la Doin is obtained.

Population

With 74 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Gondenans -les -Moulins is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 218 persons were still counted ), small fluctuations were recorded since then only.

Economy and infrastructure

Gondenans -les -Moulins was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture, fruit growing and cattle breeding ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D50, which runs from Baume- les -Dames to Villers Exel. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 12 km. Further road links exist with Rougemont and Clerval.
