Uzelle

Uzelle is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Uzelle is located on 399 m above sea level, 14 km north-northeast of Baume- les -Dames and about 28 km west of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village extends into cavity location on the gently undulating plateau between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon, on the southwestern edge of the heights of the Grands Bois.

History

On the hill above the village Chouard the remains of a Celtic fortification of the Sequani, who settled in the Franche- Comté region long before the time of Caesar found. Uzelle got its name probably in the 7th century by pulling Thuringians, who settled here.
