Montagney-Servigney

Montagny- Servigney is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Montagney - Servigney situated at an altitude of 258 m above sea level, 4 km west of Rougemont and about 35 km west of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village stretches along the edge of the valley of Ognon in the gently undulating landscape.

The area of ​​6.55 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Ognontals. The western and northern boundary runs mostly along the Ognon, the multiple turn it flows through about a kilometer wide valley. In the area of ​​historic iron works with a blast furnace from the 18th century, a small portion on the right of the river belongs to the municipality. From the river, the municipality's area extends southeastward across the alluvial plain to the high terrace and the slightly against the adjoining hills rising plateau. History

The territory of Montagney - Servigney was settled very early. In Servigney a burial ground from the La Tène period was discovered with rich grave goods. In the Middle Ages the villages Montagney and Servigney stood in the influence area of ​​the rule Rougemont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached both villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

In 1500 the first blast furnace was put into operation at Montagney. In the course of time, a significant wrought and cast iron work, which established in 1748 mainly cannonballs ( annual production 30,000 pieces) developed. In 1833 was added a wire drawing. From the mid- 1850s, however, the rapid decline of the work began, because on one hand the forests for the production of charcoal were cut down and the other, the partially lying near the surface in clefts iron ore deposits were exhausted. Since 2009, the still existing blast furnace is being restored as a private initiative by a club. Similarly, a trail is created on the theme " iron production ." A charcoal burner's hut in the old style, a limestone quarry and equipment from the cast iron production can be viewed in a temporary exhibition. The previously independent localities Montagney and Servigney merged in 1973 to today's double municipality. Today Montagney - Servigney is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté de communes du Pays de Rougemont.

Attractions

The development La Forge is classified as a Monument Historique and is an important cultural monument of the industrial age with a blast furnace from the 18th century still exist dar. Once upon a time marked by the iron works, Montagney - Servigney is aligned today mainly on agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry. There are also some plants of the local small business sector. Meanwhile, the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Thief Frans after Mondon. Further road links exist with Montbozon and Rougemont.
