Cubry

Cubry is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Cubry situated at an altitude of 320 m above sea level, 7 km south of Villers Exel and about 29 km west of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the hills between the lowlands of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north, the headwaters of the Ruisseau de l' Etang at the northern foot of the heights of the Roches de Nans.

The area of ​​5.40 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hills south of the Ognontals. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Cubry in which the Ruisseau de l' Etang springs. It drains the area west to Ognon. The boundaries of this valley in the south by the hills of Bournel and the wooded edge of the Roches de Nans, on the 453 meters, the highest elevation of Cubry is achieved, and on the east by a plateau (340 m ), which the valleys of Ruisseau de l' Etang and Bief d' Auta separates. To the north, the municipality's area extends into the broad valley of Ognon in the area of ​​Bois derrière la Côte.

Neighboring communities of Cubry are Pont -sur- l'Ognon and Les Magny in the north, Abbenans in the east, Uzelle and Nans in the south and Cubrial in the West.

History

Since the Middle Ages Cubry formed part of the feudal rule of Rougemont. The area belonged to the Moustier family that originally came from Mouthier Haute - Pierre. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Cubry is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté de communes du Pays de Rougemont.

Attractions

The village church of Cubry dates from the 19th century. Situated on a plateau south of the village, the Château de Bournel raises. It consists of the Vieux Château, built from 1730 in late Gothic - Romantic style (1890 and 1910 transformed ) and standing next to modern castle in the Gothic Revival style of about 1860 until 1870. The palaces are surrounded by a large park in the English style.

Population

With 81 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Cubry is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1911 313 persons were still counted ), was built during the 1970s, population growth, but again recorded a decline in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

Cubry was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work. The old Château de Bournel now houses a hotel, restaurant and golf course.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from the main road D50, which runs from Baume- les -Dames to Villers Exel. Further road links exist with Cubrial, Nans and Uzelle.
