Montussaint

Montussaint is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Montussaint is located on 282 m, 11 km northwest of Baume- les -Dames and about 30 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on a plateau, which is gently inclined towards the west to the valley of Ognon, in the undulating countryside in the extreme northwest of the Doubs at the western foot of the height of the Bois du Chanoi.

The area of ​​3.04 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hilly landscape between the river valleys of the Doubs and Ognon. The western part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 280 m. It is partly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also shows larger forest areas, namely the Bois de la Buhière in the northwest. To the east, the municipality's area covers over a densely wooded hillside to the height of the Bois du Chanoi, on the 399 meters, the highest elevation of Montussaint is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Montussaint are Montbozon in the north, Mondon, Puessans and Rognon in the east, the south and Tallans Avilley in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Montussaint belonged to the dominion of Montbozon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The single nave de la Nativity of Saint John the Baptist was built in 1684. Outside the church there are three stone crosses. In the center is a fountain from the 18th century.

Population

With 71 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Montussaint is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 146 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Montussaint was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Besancon to Rougemont. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 16 km. Further road links exist with Montbozon and Tallans.
