Puessans

Puessans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Puessans is located at 280 m, 9 km NNW of Baume- les -Dames and about 31 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the north, in the valley of Crenu at the southern foot of the Grand Bois.

The area of ​​3.59 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside between Doubs and Ognon. The central part of the area is occupied by the valley of the Crenu, which has a 500 m wide, flat Talniederung and ensures the drainage west to Ognon. It is mainly passed with arable and meadow land. To the north, the municipality's area extends to the adjacent heights with the Grand Bois (405 m) and Mont Adam, on the 424 m with the highest elevation of Puessans is achieved. On its southern side of the valley is flanked by the plateau of Mont Martin ( to 410 m).

Neighboring communities of Puessans are Rougemont and Gouhelans in the north, Huanne -Mont Martin in the east, and Tournans Rognon in the south and Montussaint and Mondon in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Puessans belonged to the rule Mont Martin. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Puessans is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Rougemont.

Attractions

In the village, many houses have been preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 44 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Puessans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 173 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Puessans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Clerval after Avilley. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 11 km. Another road connection with Morchamps.
