Abbenans

Abbenans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Abbenans situated at an altitude of 320 m above sea level, six kilometers south of Villers Exel and about 27 km west of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the hills between the lowlands of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north, a wide opening of the Bief d' Auta at the northern foot of the Grands Bois.

The area of ​​11:17 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hills south of the Ognontals. The central part of the area occupied by the depression of Abbenans. This is dewatered to Ognon by the Bief d' Auta and its tributaries to the northwest. It is used mainly for agricultural purposes. This trough is bounded on the north by the hill of Bois du Chanoi ( 393 m), to the east by the heights of Bournois and on the south by the high plateau of the Grands Bois, with 447 m the highest elevation reached by Abbenans on. The plateau is mostly forested and is running in multiple projections to the pool of Abbenans from. To the east, the municipality's area extends to the headwaters of the Ruisseau de Peute Vue, another tributary of the Ognon.

Neighboring communities of Abbenans are Les Magny in the north, Fallon and Bournois in the east, the south and Uzelle Cubry in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Abbenans belonged to the d' Oiselay family and then to the Lords of Grammont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Abbenans is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté de communes du Pays de Rougemont.

Attractions

The village church of Abbenans was built in 1730. In the center several houses in the traditional style of the Franche- Comté are from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 351 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Abbenans one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 675 persons were still counted ), was built during the 1970s, population growth, but again recorded a decline in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

Abbenans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from the main road D50, which runs from Baume- les -Dames to Villers Exel. Further road links exist with Fallon and Uzelle.
