Gouhelans

Gouhelans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Gouhelans is located on 282 m, 11 km north of Baume- les -Dames and about 35 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the north, in a wide valley.

The area of ​​6.17 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside between Doubs and Ognon. The central part of the area occupied by the wide valley of Gouhelans, which is on average 290 m and opens to the Valley of the Ognon north. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. To the west it is separated by a ridge from the valley of Morchamps, while in the south a saddle leads on to the headwaters of the Crenu. To the east, the municipality's area extends in a narrow strip on a 100 m high ground level up to the arid, karst plateau of Plain Bois, which is densely forested. Here the highest elevation of Gouhelans is achieved with 438 m.

Neighboring communities of Gouhelans are Rougemont in the west and north, Gondenans -les -Moulins in the east and Romain, Huanne -Mont Martin and Puessans in the south.

History

Is first mentioned Gouhelans in 1187th in the Middle Ages was a part of the municipality to rule Rougemont, the other for rule Mont Martin. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Gouhelans is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Rougemont.

Attractions

Gouhelans has two chapels; the chapel Sainte -Anne was built in 1899 and the other in the 17th century. In the village, many houses have been preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 112 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Gouhelans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 324 persons were still counted ), only relatively small variations have since been recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Gouhelans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture, fruit growing and cattle breeding ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Rougemont after Huanne -Mont Martin. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 10 km. Further road links exist with Romain and Morchamps.
