Rognon (Doubs)

Rognon is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Rognon is located at 280 m, 9 km NNW of Baume- les -Dames and about 30 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the north, in the valley of Crenu at the northern foot of the Bois du Rocher.

The area of ​​4.09 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside between Doubs and Ognon. The central part of the area is occupied by the valley of the Crenu, which has a roughly 200 to 500 m wide, flat Talniederung and ensures the drainage west to Ognon. The valley to the north is flanked by the heights of the Grand Bois ( to 380 m). To the south, the municipality's area extends over a relatively steep slope down to the wide, forested ridge of the Bois du Rocher, on the 445 meters, the highest elevation of Rognon is achieved. In the southeast of communal land in the valley of the Rupt de Vaulx, a southern tributary of the Crenu enough.

Neighboring communities of Rognon are Montussaint and Puessans in the north, east and south, and Tournans Tallans in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Rognon in 1166. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the rule Mont Martin. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Rognon is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Rougemont.

Attractions

On the slope above the village is the church of Saint -Nicolas, which was built around 1700 on the site of a medieval chapel. Remains of a Medieval castle are visible. In the village, many houses have been preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 47 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Rognon is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 187 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Rognon was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Clerval after Avilley. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 12 km. Another road connection with Tournans.
