Vergranne

Vergranne is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vergranne is located at 450 m, 7 km north-northeast of Baume- les -Dames and about 34 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on a hill on the plateau between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and in the north Ognon.

The area of ​​5.18 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside north of the Doubs. The entire area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 440 m. It shows a loose structure of arable and meadow land forest respectively. To the west the plateau is slightly inclined. In the whole area there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. With 462 m is reached on a hill southwest of the village is the highest elevation of Vergranne. To the north extends the communal land to the edge of the Bois des Brosses, east to the Bois de Reuge and south on the corridor Les Mondrevaux.

Neighboring communities of Vergranne are Mésandans in the north, and Viéthorey Voillans in the east, the south and Autechaux Verne and Rillans in the West.

History

On the communal land of Vergranne a human tooth was discovered along with other finds from the Quaternary, which has an age of about 400,000 years. In the Middle Ages Vergranne belonged to the dominion of Clerval, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2001 Vergranne is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Baumois.

Population

With 107 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Vergranne is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 140 people were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again. Since then, the population has almost doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Vergranne was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Autechaux by Fontenelle - Montby. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 5 km. Another road connection with Verne.
