Luxiol

Luxiol is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Luxiol is located on 392 m, 4 km north of Baume- les -Dames and about 29 km east-northeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon, on the southwestern edge of a high plateau, at the northern foot of the Framont.

The area of ​​6.44 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 380 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also shows some small areas of forest. To the north- west of the municipality floor extends into the forest area of the Bois du Raz. Is flanked on its southern side of the plateau ridge of Framont, which separates it from the adjacent Doubs Valley. On the predominantly forested height is 519 m reaches the highest point of Luxiol. In the whole area there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

History

In the Middle Ages Luxiol belonged to the dominion of Clerval, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2001 Luxiol is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Baumois.

Population

With 161 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Luxiol one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1911 232 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

Luxiol was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village.
