Guillon-les-Bains

Guillon -les- Bains is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Guillon -les- Bains is located at 298 m, 5 km southeast of Baume- les -Dames and about 29 km east-northeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, in the valley of Cusancin, between the heights of the Bois du Saussoi in the north and the Mont d' Adam in the south.

The area of ​​4.72 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern part of the area is occupied by the valley of the Cusancin. The river here flows through a 150 m deep incised into the surrounding plateau valley from east to west and has a maximum of 300 m wide, flat Talniederung. The valley is flanked by steep slopes on either side, surmounted at different locations of Kalkfelswänden and striking projections. The northern boundary runs in the Bois du Saussoi (up to 500 m), which forms the westernmost foothills of the Lomont. To the south, the municipality's area extends over the steep slope to the adjacent, slightly undulating plateau of Passavant. With 561 meters, the highest elevation of Guillon -les- Bains is reached at the Mont d' Adam.

Neighboring communities of Guillon -les- Bains are Villers -Saint -Martin -sur- Crête and Lomont in the north, and Cusance Montivernage in the East, Adam -lès- Passavant in the south and Pont- les -Moulins to the west.

History

The mineral spring of Guillon was already used in the 18th century. During the 19th century the town developed into a nationally famous thermal spa. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Guillon was officially renamed in 1922 in Guillon -les- Bains.

Attractions

The town center is dominated by houses in the traditional style of Franche-Comté, which were built in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Population

With 107 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Guillon -les- Bains is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 201 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

After Guillon -les- Bains lived mainly from the thermal spa in the 19th century, the village (crops, orchards and livestock ) is now mainly dominated by agriculture. There are also some plants of the local small business sector. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Pont- les -Moulins after Cusance. Another road connection with Montivernage.
