Fourbanne

Fourbanne is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Fourbanne is located at 264 m, 5 km west-southwest of Baume- les -Dames and 23 km east-northeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the Doubs Valley on the right the north side of the river, in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura, at the northern foot of the Côte (Jura - edge chain).

The area of ​​1.97 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The Doubs flows here with several turns by a usually around 500 m wide, flat floodplain to west southwest and simultaneously forms the waterways of the Rhine- Rhone Canal. The valley is deeply incised between the mountain ranges of the system of law - edge chain. It is flanked by steep slopes, rock walls, caves and springs show. From the river, the southern border, the community area extends northward over the flood plain and an approximately 50 to 80 m high steep slope, which is crossed by various local rock up on the adjoining plateau of Gros Bois. Here the highest elevation of Fourbanne is achieved with 386 m.

Neighboring communities of Fourbanne are Gros Bois to the north, Baume- les -Dames and Esnans in the east, Ougney - Douvot in the south and Séchin in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Fourbanne belonged to Kastlanei Baume- les -Dames. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2001 Fourbanne is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Baumois.

Population

With 175 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Fourbanne one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1911 78 people were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the mid- 1970s. Since then, the population has more than quadrupled.

Economy and infrastructure

Fourbanne was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In the 19th century, the water power of the Doubs was used for the operation of a mill. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The only entrance is from Gros Bois on the main road N83, which runs from Besançon to Montbéliard. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 10 km.
